Tinubu’s Education Promises and the Politics of Deception: When Presidential Stories Collide With Public Reality

Elizabeth Holmes Says She Never Lied. Theranos’ History Tells a Different Story

Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced founder of Theranos, claims in Nathan Fielder’s new documentary, You Can See Everything, that she cannot recall ever lying. But a review of archived interviews by Forbes challenges that account.

At a 2015 Forbes healthcare summit, Holmes said Theranos’ blood-testing business was profitable. Financial records and testimony later showed the company was losing enormous sums, contradicting her claim.

Holmes was convicted in 2022 of four federal counts related to defrauding investors and sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.

The controversy highlights a troubling distinction: believing in your own version of events does not make it true. In business, confidence and charisma can attract investors, but they cannot replace evidence, transparency and accountability.

The Theranos scandal remains a warning to Silicon Valley and the wider startup world: when a founder’s story becomes more important than the facts, trust can become a dangerous investment.
